After hearing the song once, my initial ideas were:
- Earthy and very nature oriented as a theme (use of the elements; fire, water and earth)
- focus on just one person, perhaps the main singer or an actor
- a time lapse from childhood (when the music is happy and lighter) to adulthood (when the song progresses into a heavier and more powerful song)
- use of fire in the chorus
- as the song ends suddenly, the protagonist to fall into a pool of water with a big splash.
Upon sharing our ideas as a class, I noted some other thoughts which I admired, such as the use of rain in the chorus, or the protagonist laying down with a birds eye shot showing this.
Subsequent to watching the music video for No Rest, the link between music, lyrics and visuals became very fabricated and clear. The video for this song reflected the indie genre, due to an idea which was original for a music video, without much action and limited effects. Although, the simplicity of the music video definitely demonstrated the song, due to having less effects and instruments and one lone singer, in comparison to other modern songs which are seen in the charts. The lyrics were linked to the video due to the sweet lyrics in the beginning of the song correlating with the section of the music video which did not show much action, compared to the chorus of which the vocalist shares his emotions completely correlates with the section of the video which the men are being splashed with an abundance of water, almost seeming violent.
Good. What have you learned by doing this?
